We built Tanzania Kiganjani, "Government in your palm", a single front door to government services in Tanzania: ask a question in your own words, get an answer, and complete the service in one place.
People simply describe what they need in Swahili, like registering a child for school, getting a business licence, applying for a birth certificate or a NIDA ID, or paying taxes online, and the assistant guides them from there. They can type, speak or attach a file.
We self-hosted our own language model instead of relying on a third-party AI API, so we control how it answers, what it costs to run, and where people's data goes.
Built the backend in Go to serve the model and the service information, and the frontend in Next.js for a fast, simple, mobile-friendly experience.
We built everything ourselves, from the model hosting and AI pipeline to the backend and interface, to make dealing with government easier for every Tanzanian.
